What I Wear Daily: Sooti Ethical Fashion

Every morning, while it’s still dark, I grab some clothes and head to the beach with my dog. Most often, the clothes I grab are from Sooti.

Yoga pants, drop crotch pants, yoga shorts, sports bras, camisoles, tee shirts, underwear; Sooti offer a range of sustainably sourced, ethical, and certified organic wares. They’re not just activewear or yoga wear - I wear Sooti when I’m not on the mat too.

The clothes are durable, comfortable, and well made.

Sooti has been in my wardrobe since December 2019, and I’ve slowly added more garments to my wardrobe as needed.

You will know all about Sooti’s ethics and sustainability from my first blog in 2020, but here’s a recap, and a detailed review of a few garments so you know if they would work for you.

I am incredibly particular about the brands in my wardrobe. Before anything new comes in, I need to know who made it (and that they were treated fairly) and what it’s made from (sustainable materials). Sooti were quick to answer these questions when I asked. Through emails back and forth, plus an in-person meeting with the owner, Shireen, Sooti made it into my wardrobe.

  • GOTS certified organic cotton

  • Fairtrade certified factories

  • Shireen’s mother, Sujata Kamra, lives in India and ensures quality plus ethics are upheld

  • Small percentage of spandex still included for stretch (not ideal in terms of sustainability, but currently cannot be avoided)

  • Plastic free packaging

  • Values and focus on repurposing the clothes when they are no longer wearable - e.g. turn into vegetable ties stuffing for cushions, rags for mechanics

Again, you can read more ‘about the brand’ information in my last Sooti blog here, but for now; here’s what I think of my latest Sooti pieces.

Trina Yoga Pants

I’m going to start with these, because they’re my current daily. I am wearing them as I type this and have worn them every morning for my beach walk and yoga session, for the past two weeks. They still don’t need a wash yet, and when I do wash them, they’re okay to go into a cycle with like-colours. I mention this, because often ethically made activewear requires hand washing and special treatment. I personally do a lot of hand washing, but for hectic households and people who don’t like the meditative process of hand washing, being able to throw them straight into the wash is mandatory.

The Trina Yoga Pants are a game changer for yoga. They cover your whole leg like tights do, but without the compression of tights. They have a little front pocket on the waist band that is perfect for keys or a credit card, and the soft organic cotton is a dream boat.

I am 177cm tall, and wear a size M (I could fit a size S, but for my height I sized up).

The Lotus Collection - Tank

This loose fitting tank is a favourite because of the unique strap lines at the back. When paired with the Lotus Bra, the back straps look even more impressive and complex.

To be honest, I wasn’t sure of the print at first, but it’s warmed on me.

The length is not too long, not to short, and goes with all of my pants.

I wear a size M.

The Lotus Collection - Bra

I love this bra for many reasons:

  • Holds up my boobs while I work out, but isn’t too tight and restricting

  • Super groovy straps (as you can see in the photos)

  • Unique and simple fabric pattern

If you need something sturdy, and are on the larger bust size, I don’t think this bra will be ideal for you. But if, like me, you enjoy a soft bra for yoga, I think you’ll love it.

There is padding in the bra, which isn’t a biodegradable material. Sustainable padding is nearly impossible to source- I’ve never found any and neither have the brands I know who are trying hard to source it. The point here is to look after the bra and reuse the padding for other things if the bra becomes redundant.

I wear a size M (I could fit size S, but I prefer a looser fit).

Underwear

I am lucky to have both the Boy Shorts and the Low Rise Bikini knickers. They’re both great assets to my underwear draw. The Boy Shorts come down further on your cheeks and I wouldn’t recommend wearing them under tight dresses or leggings if you don’t want underwear lines to show. The Low Rise Bikini are excellent for pants/skirts the sit lower on your hips; they won’t pop up or be seen as they sit super low.

I wear a size M in both styles.

As a rule, I only work with brands I love, use, and can whole heartedly back. I send the brand a large list of questions to answer first, and trial the product properly before saying yes to anything. This is a sponsored blog (I can't pay my electricity bill with free products), but 100% my own words, photos, and opinion.
